What We Offer

Experience shows that at various times in life, the issues and concerns of adoption need to be addressed. We provide our members with opportunities to gain further understanding of adoption issues through:

  • Conducting a monthly support group in New Westminster, BC, Canada
  • Internet "chat" support group (every 4th Wednesday of the month, from 8-9pm Pacific time.)
  • Individual peer support
  • Resource library
  • Referrals to professionals and other service groups
  • Speakers Bureau to educate groups on post-adoption issues
  • Quarterly Newsletter

Our Mandate

  • To encourage and develop a recognition of the benefits of family preservation and openness in adoption practice.
  • To establish and operate a Post Adoption Resource Centre providing education, consultation, counseling and support to those touched by adoption: adoptees, birthparents, adoptive parents, and concerned professionals.
  • To provide community education programs, panel presentations and workshops on post adoption issues for any members of the community who wish to learn more about adoption and reunion issues.

AAC On YouTube

At long last (and after several technical difficulties,) the first two of the AAC videos are live on YouTube – today! We currently have two slideshows on YouTube with two more to come in the fall. Currently, “Adoption & Truth” about adoptees’ need to know where they come from, and “Birth Mothers Never Forget” are posted. We will announce that they are live in The Beacon on Friday but I wanted to make sure you knew in advance of the official announcement.

The Adoptees Association is a not-for-profit organization whose intent is to serve the interests of adopted people. We currently provide a venue for the exchange of ideas and support, referrals to counselling and advocacy services, guest speakers, panels, reading lists and website links. We welcome ideas on other services we can provide that may be of value to the community. One of our goals is to have a permanent resource centre including a lending library.
